What She Wants
It seems that 48 hours after the story broke and less than 24 hours after CNN linked to her MySpace page, Ashley Alexandra Dupre’s social networking ode to herself has been taken down, or hijacked, or something.
Ashley Alexandra Dupre, known as Kristen to one very famous John, is the high-priced escort with whom Eliot Spitzer was caught cavorting. If you haven’t read of the escapades find it all here.
Besides the apparent thrill of watching a moral crusader cut off at the knees by his moral shortcomings the events unfolding have me compulsively checking in on Ashley’s MySpace page.
By the time these comments post, the escort’s web page will have seen many incarnations. The site was pulled today at about noon and since then various spacers have created their own sites using her original URL. I first saw the site last night. Apparently she is an aspiring recording artist who fled a broken home, battled addiction and calls the warm, safe embrace of New York City home; somehow a very American story.
Her MySpace page offered a fleeting yet fascinating and voyeuristic glance at an otherwise relatively normal (though we don’t know everything about her despite our voracious efforts) girl/woman/whore/escort/victim/celebrity . . . As these things tend to play out, she’ll fade from our consciousness as quickly as her Myspace page has. Unless of course she cashes in on reality T.V., porn mags, quick and dirty record deals, talk show circuit . . . .
